Helen Hunter

September 4, 1912 — September 8, 2004

Helen Annette Hunter, 92, joined her Lord early Wednesday morning, September 8th, at Deaconess Billings Clinic Hospital. Her fall and resulting broken hip was just one too many trials for her heart to endure after years of suffering from osteoporosis. What a blessing that "Little Helen" celebrated her 92nd birthday in glorious fashion just 4 days before.

Helen was born September 4, 1912, near Pelican Rapids, MN, on the family homestead, a landmark in the area. Her parents, Samuel and Tillie Severtson, were both 1st generation immigrants from Norway. She graduated in 1930 from Lake Park High School where she excelled in her studies, women's basketball, and singing at the Lutheran Church and community functions with her sisters.

She married Thomas Roland Hunter in Fargo, ND, in 1931. Throughout her life she treasured learning and was a self-taught woman. She worked as a bookkeeper for Martinson's Jewelry in Moorhead, MN, for 28 years. She loved sewing, embroidery, and craft making. Her quilts were legendary. She and Roland were active in bowling and organized many league tournaments as well as winning many bowling awards through the years. After retirement, she was an active volunteer for Eventide Retirement Home, The Moorhead Thrift Shop, and her church, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, in Moorhead where she headed the Quiltmakers for many years.

In 1998, she moved to Billings, MT, to be closer to her only daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Don Floberg. For the past 6 ½ years, there have been many good times in Helen's life. At Mission Ridge and St. John's Lutheran Home, she was known for her enjoyment of people, making new friends, her faithful attendance at church services, bible studies and sing-a-longs, her famous peanut brittle recipe and for her courageous daily battle with the effects of osteoporosis. She was a member of American Lutheran Church where the pastors always made her feel treasured and welcome.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986, and her parents, grandparents, three sisters, two brothers, and a step-grandchild. She is survived by her only daughter, Marilyn Floberg and husband Don of Billings; grandchildren David Bjornson of Missoula, Dana Bjornson and wife Gabrielle of Overland Park, Kansas; and great-grandchildren Nicholas, Daniel, Kristina, Emma, Blake and Chase. In addition, she is survived by three stepgrandchildren, Kim Floberg of Billings, David Floberg of Miami, FL, Andrew Floberg of Duluth, MN; and stepgreat-grandchildren Kate Floberg of Billings and Denny Carlson of Minneapolis, MN. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces and their children.

Grams, we love you and will miss you dearly in our daily lives. You have been such a blessing to your daughter and family and we treasure the blessings we have enjoyed in sharing these last years with you. Now you can walk free of pain and can be once more with your loving husband.

A memorial service will be held in Billings at St. John's Ocee Johnson Chapel on Sunday, September 12, at 2:00 PM. In addition, a memorial service will be held in Moorhead on Thursday, September 16th, at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Moor
Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary in Billings and Korsmo Funeral Service in Moorhead are in charge of arrangements.
