Helen Johnk

Helen Margaret Krabbenhoft, daughter of Hans and Leafy (Moore) Krabbenhoft, was born March 8, 1916, in Sabin, MN, where she grew up. She graduated from high school in Barnesville, MN.

On September 18, 1938, Helen was married to Leland Johnk, at Sabin. They lived in Moorhead and Sabin, and in Fairmont, ND, Hebron, ND, and Williston, ND. In Williston, Helen worked at B and B Drug as well as Corner Market. Leland died on September 6, 1967.

After her husband's death, Helen returned to Sabin to live and work. She worked as a custodian and food service person in the Sabin public school, until the school closed. While living in Sabin, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. After moving to Moorhead, Helen became a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

In 1980, Helen moved from Sabin, to Moorhead, MN. In 1995, Helen moved to Eventide Living Center, and in 2012, to Eventide on Eighth. She died at Eventide on Monday, September 22, 2014, at the age of 98.

Helen will be remembered for how she did not focus on material things, but rather on relationships with people and giving to others. She truly loved spending time with her family. She was an excellent seamstress, cook and baker. She enjoyed reading books, playing cards, especially solitaire, solving puzzles and even took to playing hand-held electronic games.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Leland; a granddaughter, Connie; and her six siblings, Marian Peterson, Buck Krabbenhoft, Lucille Peterson, George Krabbenhoft, Rosemary Krabbenhoft and Marty Boe. She is survived by her five daughters, Janet (Allan) Landstrom, Crosby, ND, Margaret (Butch) Ohm, Canyon Lake, TX, Pam (Roger) Blackman, Altona, Victoria, Australia, Trish (Tom) Heng, Vergas, MN, and Kim (Dwayne) Keller, Irwin, PA; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Helen will be Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 2:30 PM, in Bottolfson Chapel at Eventide on 8th, Moorhead, MN.
