Helen Rose King died on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at The Cottages in Detroit Lakes, MN, at the age of 93.
She was born December 1, 1918, to Herman and Katherine (Krump) Heitkamp at Mooreton, ND. In 1919, they moved to Barney, ND where Helen attended grade school. She graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1936.
Helen graduated from the ND State School of Science in 1938, and worked at Richland County Welfare Dept. until 1941. She moved to Moorhead and was employed at Cass Clay Creamery where she met Duaine King.
Helen married Duaine King on October 30, 1946. She volunteered as a Boy Scout and Campfire Leader. In 1969, Helen went to work for NW Bell Telephone Co. in the Engineering Dept. and retired in 1984. Duaine and Helen enjoyed summers at Lake Lizzie with their children and grandchildren.
Helen and Duaine were charter members of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead. Helen was a member of the Church Guild, Christian Mother's Society and Catholic Daughters. She was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Telephone Pioneers. Helen enjoyed reading, working in her flower gardens, and playing cards and games with her grandchildren and friends. After Duaine died in 1989, Helen continued to make her home in Moorhead until moving to Detroit Lakes in 2006.
In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Leona Cox, Alvina Schlough, and Velaria Kath; two brothers, Edmund and Lawrence Heitkamp; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Heitkamp; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Cox, Leon Schlough, and Edward Schmit.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 AM, on Monday, January 30, 2012, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (601 15th Ave. North, Moorhead, MN).
Visitation is one hour before the service at St. Francis de Sales.
Burial: St. Joseph's Cemetery, Moorhead.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead.
