Helen L. Adams, 94, was peacefully called to the home of the Father on February 16, 2006, at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.
Helen Lillian Peterson was born to Charles and Ida Peterson in rural Moorhead on February 5, 1912. After attending grade school in Clearview Township, Helen graduated from Moorhead High School and Moorhead State Teacher's College. She then taught school in Downer, MN. At that time, she met Leo Adams. They were married on November 8, 1936. Together they planned their dream home in south Moorhead, buying a lot cleared out of a cornfield. As they built their house, they became known in the community as the "honeymoon couple." They lived in the house together for sixty-three years. Every weekend in the summer was spent with their children at their cabin at the lake.
In 1963, Helen started teaching at St. Joseph's Catholic School until her retirement in 1976. Helen loved her job and reached out to each and every student. After retiring, she continued with volunteer work for the next twenty years. During this time, she was recognized numerous times for her efforts, being nominated for F-M Woman of the Year and being named Volunteer of the Year in 1991. She belonged to many organizations throughout the years.
Leo died in May 1999, at which time Helen entered Eventide Lutheran Home.
She will be remembered as a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She spent her life sharing her love for others unselfishly. Helen will be greatly missed by many.
