Helen Senora Peterson was born December 4, 1921, to Henry and Sophie (Benesh) Peterson, in rural Ada, MN, in Norman County. At an early age, the family moved to Hendrum, MN. Helen attended Norman County Viking School. In her 20's, Helen worked in Dayton, OH and Gulfport, MS.
Helen was united in marriage to Lester Edmunds of Hendrum, on April 20, 1944, at Concordia Lutheran Church in rural Hendrum. They spent a few months in Mississippi where he was stationed in the Navy. After his military service, they returned to farm near Hendrum until 1978. In 1982, they moved into Hendrum and enjoyed fifteen years there until they moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1997. For twenty years they enjoyed winters in Arizona. Lester preceded Helen in death on November 13, 2003. Helen died Thursday, March 4, 2004, in Halstad Lutheran Memorial Home, Halstad, MN, at eighty-two years of age.
Helen was very active in the Concordia church. She taught Sunday school, held many offices, and was active in many of the church groups, particularly the Ladies Aide. Lester and Helen sang at many church functions and county events in Norman County. Helen was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hendrum.
Helen is lovingly survived by her four children, Nancy Ward and her husband, Ray, St. Vincent, MN, Jorgene Alsager and her husband Darryl, Walcott, ND, Pam Grove and her husband, Kit, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Joan Borgen and her husband Craig, Fargo; four grandchildren, Joshua and Carly Alsager, and Bethany and Adam Borgen; five brothers, Edgar (Leona), Hibbing, MN, Gerald (Marie), Colorado Springs, CO, Robert (Sandra), Lodi, CA, Larry (Marilyn), Hardin, MT, and Lyle (Alice), Hendrum; and one sister, Arlene (Allan) Ingberg, Perley, MN.
In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Marjorie, and one brother, James.
Visitation for Helen will be Monday, March 8, 2004, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Her funeral will be Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at 2 PM, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hendrum. Burial will be in Immanue
