Helene Balgaard

November 28, 1940 — February 11, 2015

Helene Edith Balgaard, the daughter of Kenneth and Helen (McEvers) Christensen, was born November 28, 1940, in Barnesville, MN. She grew up and received her education in Barnesville, where she graduated from high school. She went on to attend Wahpeton State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND.

On February 24, 1962, Helene married Roger Balgaard at St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville. Following their marriage, they moved to and raised a family in Dilworth, MN. Helene worked a variety of odd jobs in and around Dilworth.

In February of 2011, Roger and Helene moved to Rochester, MN, to live with their children, and later to Sunrise Cottages of Rochester. Helene died there on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at the age of seventy-four.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger; and brothers, Marshall Christensen and Harold Christensen (her twin).

Helene is survived by her son, DuWayne Balgaard, and daughter, Barbara Balgaard, both of Surprise, AZ; one brother, Wesley (Etta Mae) Christensen; sister, Bonnie (Wayne) Tucker; and sister-in-law, Janice Christensen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or Dilworth Lutheran Church in Helene's name.

Visitation will be Monday, February 23, 2015, from 5 - 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Her funeral will be Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at 11 AM, in Dilworth Lutheran Church.

Burial will be Tuesday at 3 PM, in Mound Grove Cemetery, Evansville, MN.
