Henrietta Strandjord

Henrietta Strandjord, 85, of Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, January 27, 2016, in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

She was born November 2, 1930 on the family farm near Wilton, ND. Her parents, Groes and Johanna Broste, emigrated from Denmark and homesteaded just north of Bismarck, ND. Henrietta grew up during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl years, and had many stories to tell about living then. The most memorable were about the times spent with neighbors and family, barn dances, and prairie life. She went to school in a one-room school house until traveling to Bismarck to attend high school.

Henrietta went to college at NDSU in Fargo where she studied home economics and art. It was there that she met lifelong friends with whom she has kept in close contact through the years.

Henrietta's college friends also introduced her to a new science teacher in the Moorhead school system, Rolf Strandjord. They were married on August 1, 1954, in Wilton, ND. Their made home together on a quiet avenue on the south side of Moorhead, where they raised two sons, Eric and Andrew, who now live in Eagan, MN, and Sioux Falls, SD. Rolf passed away in 1978

Henrietta was a gifted artist and many of her paintings were nature scenes. She learned quilting and handwork from her mother and for many years, she was an avid bowler. She was very generous to her children and grandchildren. It was a priority to be part of their lives as they grew up.

She is survived by her two sons, Eric (Donzetta) and Andrew (Ruth); three grandchildren, Dana (Jeff), Laurie, and Kirsten (Jay); and her three brothers, John (Alvina), Nels (Sally), and William.

A Visitation for Henrietta will be one hour prior to her funeral service.

Her Funeral Service will be Monday, February 1, 2016, at 10:00 AM, in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead.

Burial will take place at 4:00 PM, Monday, in Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Belview, MN.
