Henry E. Singer Jr., 86, of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Glyndon, MN, died on Thursday, January 25, 2024, in St. Catherine North, Fargo, ND, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Henry Emmanuel Singer Jr. was born on December 28, 1937, in Hazen, ND, to Henry and Emma (Blum) Singer. Henry attended school and graduated from Beulah High School in 1956. Henry then attended NDSU College. In 1958, Henry joined the United States Army receiving an honorable medical discharge. He then returned to NDSU. Henry received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. He loved farming and livestock as well as the food industry. He worked at the Fireside Supper Club, in Detroit Lakes, MN, as a chef, for two summers.
Henry married the love of his life, Mable Boeshans on July 28, 1961. Together they had four children and lived in the Fargo/Moorhead area. Henry worked as an assistant manager in the food service department at Moorhead State University. In 1967, the family moved to a farm in rural Glyndon, where they built their home, and Henry was a part time hobby farmer along with his job at MSU. In June of 1968, he became investor/manager of Mr. Steak Restaurant in Moorhead. They later purchased it and also opened a Mr. Steak in Fargo in 1975, which was later sold to Mike and Nancy Nelson. After 25 years Henry retired from food service. He liked to stay busy and worked odd jobs until he started Henry’s Pilot Car Service, piloting trucks with oversized loads. That took him all over the country which he loved. Due to health reasons he had to retire in June of 2016.
He loved to be outdoors and continued mowing the lawn and watching all the animals that ventured onto their property. Henry also loved being around people, whether they were friends, family, or strangers. He loved to talk with people and was a big jokester. He had a big heart and would put others before himself. He would often pick up homeless people from the shelter, give them meals and take them to the farm, offering them work for the day with pay and a second meal. He was a selfless person who did what he could to help others in times of need.
Henry is survived by his wife, Mable; daughters, Cherie (Jamie) Thom and Tanya (Cesar) Singer Yanez; sister, Esther Fleisher; brothers-in-law, Vernon (Lillian) Boeshans, Wayne (Iris) Boeshans, Jerome (Jane) Boeshans, and Don Kramer; sister-in-law, Bette Jane Boeshans; and many nieces and nephews.
