Henry A. "Hank" Volochenko, 87, of Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, in his home in Moorhead.
Henry Andrew Volochenko was born March 7, 1926, the son of Anton and Pauline (Dassenko) Volochenko, on the family farm south of Kief, ND. He was raised there and started farming at a young age with his family. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army as a chef and chauffeur for Armed Forces VIP Brass. Upon his discharge in 1945, he stayed in San Francisco as a metal millwright.
In 1947, he returned to North Dakota and began working as a brakeman for the Great Northern Railroad. He later transferred to Amtrak where he worked as a conductor until his retirement in 1989.
On December 29, 1952, he was united in marriage to LaDonna Liebe at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Harvey, ND. Henry opened Hank's Builders Supply in 1955 in Minot, ND, moving the company to Moorhead in 1957, where they raised their six children. In 1963, Henry and LaDonna purchased property on Lake Eunice for all their family and friends to enjoy.
Hank enjoyed woodworking, and gardening. He was a major collector of merchandise of all kinds. He also loved people and was known for his kind, loving and generous ways. Hank was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Disabled Veterans of America.
He is survived by LaDonna Volochenko of Moorhead; children, Steve of Balfour, ND, Kathy (Dave) Prouty of Mantorville, MN, Mary Kay Volochenko of Moorhead, Ron (Lori) Volochenko of Lake Wales, FL, and Paul (Laurie) Volochenko of Milan, IL; grandchildren, K
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert; and brothers, Alvin, Nick, and Tony.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many friends who kept an eye on Dad. We appreciated your efforts and kindness more than you know. We will all miss Henry's twinkling blue eyes, laughter and orneriness.

Funeral Service: Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 11:00 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
