Herman E. Holland

Herman E. Holland, 78, of Moorhead, MN, died Friday, March 25, 2016, in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

Herman Edgar Holland, the son of Herman W. and Marie (Narveson) Holland was born in Mayville, ND, on September 10, 1937. He grew up in Mayville. At the age of 13, he moved with his family to a farm near Moorhead, where he finished his education. Herman attended and graduated in 1959, from Concordia College in Moorhead. After graduation, he taught school for one year in Pelican Rapids, MN.

Herman was united in marriage to Gail Chelstrom on January 26, 1962, in Moorhead, where the family made their home. Herman taught science in North Junior High School in Moorhead until 1970. He and his wife, Gail, started Holland's Landscaping and Garden Center and operated the business until selling in 2002. Herman also taught part-time at Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo for two years. In retirement, he continued to be active by working part-time for Agassiz Seeds in West Fargo, and substitute teaching in FM area schools.

Herman was an active member of The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, where he had served in many capacities including being on the church council and being church president. He enjoyed gardening and golfing. He was an avid newspaper reader, especially following high school sports. Herm and Gail enjoyed following and supporting their granddaughters, Britta playing volleyball, and Claire figure skating. He enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of many people including his golfing and card buddies.

Herman is survived by his wife, Gail, Moorhead; three sons, Marc (LaDonna Korstad) Holland, Johnny (Dawn Koranda) Holland, and Greg (Kathy) Holland, all of Moorhead; granddaughters, Britta and Claire; brother, Myron "Mike" (Dale) Holland, Eagan, MN; sister, Mae (Dean) Weiland, Grand Forks, ND; special grandnephew, Zack Conner; and brother-in-law, John (Shirley) Chelstrom, Bella Vista, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation is Tuesday, March 29, 2016, from 5 PM until 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7, in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead. Funeral service is Wednesday, at 11 AM, also in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King.
