Hilda M. Bartz, 78, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2008, at her home at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN. Her family was present with her as she died.
Hilda was born July 19, 1930 to Albert and Hazel Stene at their home near Flom, MN. She was baptized at Wild Rice Lutheran Church and confirmed at Sundahl Lutheran Church, rural Fertile, MN.
Hilda attended high school in Ada, MN, until the 10th grade and later achieved her GED. She worked at the Green Lantern Café and the telephone company. Hilda married Wallace G. Bartz on February 8, 1952, at Pleasant View Church, rural Ada.
Together they farmed the family farm at Lockhart until Wally's death on September 15, 1986. Their lives centered on the farm, on their neighbors and on their church, First English Lutheran Church, Lockhart. Hilda served as Sunday School Superintendent and as a leader in the congregation for over thirty years.
Hilda moved to Moorhead following her husband's death and made Eventide Living Center her home in 1989. The Eventide community was where she thrived, working at the gift shop, painting fingernails, leading devotions and Bible studies, and eventually beginning the "solace" ministry.
She made it her goal to know people's names and to love everyone she met. Her volunteer work was recognized not only at Eventide but by community organizations and highlighted when she received the Governor's Award for volunteer service at the State Fair
Hilda is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Greg) Billberg, Alexandria, MN; a son Wayne Bartz (fiancée, Danita Marick), Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Elizabeth Billberg, Aaron Billberg, Abigail Baublitz, Andrew Dallman, Micah Bartz, Jenna Brengman, and Chloe B
Visitation for Hilda will be on Wednesday from 5 - 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
The Funeral Service will be on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at 11 AM, in the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.
Burial will take place at Pleasant View Cemetery, Ada, MN, on Thursday at 2:30 PM.
