Hildred Irene Thompson was born May 19, 1914, in Perley, MN, to Andrew and Annie (Erickson) Thompson. "Hilly," as she was affectionately known, was raised in Perley until June 26, 1932, when she married Oliver Narum of Gardner, ND. They lived and farmed in that area until his death on August 12, 1935.
Hilly married Harold Kappel of Borup, MN, on November 6, 1941. They lived in Borup a short time until they moved to Twin Valley, MN. Hilly worked as a store clerk and at the Co-Op Creamery until she retired. They moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, where she volunteered for various organizations.
They moved to Dilworth, MN, in 1969. Harold died June 14, 1978, and Hilly continued to make her home in Dilworth. Hilly continued her volunteer activities and received the Volunteer of the Year award in 1996.
Hilly entered Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, in January of 2005, where she died Monday, January 24, 2011, at ninety-six years of age.
Hilly is survived by seven grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to her husbands, Hilly was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Narum and Orland Narum.
Visitation for Hilly will be one hour before the funeral.
Her funeral will be Sunday, January 30, 2011, at 2 PM, in Bottolfson Chapel, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead.
Burial will be in the spring at Winchester Cemetery, Borup.
