Hunter Lee Briscoe, born on May 19, 1991, in Helena, Montana, was a spirit who touched the lives of many throughout his journey. Raised in Moorhead, Minnesota, Hunter spent his childhood surrounded by the love of his parents, Brenda and Ricky Backlund, and later moved to Clarksville, Mississippi, where he graduated high school. His heart always found its way back to Moorhead, which remained his home base for life.
As a dedicated heavy equipment operator, Hunter traveled across the country, leaving his mark as he installed drain tiles in states like Maine, Montana, Texas, Arizona, and Colorado. Throughout his career, he exemplified hard work and commitment. His greatest pride came from his family, particularly with three beloved children: Willow, Cypress, and Aspen.
Hunter was a true outdoorsman. He cherished the moments spent hiking with his children, exploring the beauty of nature at local favorites like Maplewood State Park and Buffalo River Park. He had a passion for cooking, proudly mastering the art of smoking and barbecuing meats, often dreaming of one day sharing his culinary creations from a food truck. His love for his loyal dogs, especially his companion, Moose, was evident, and he carried a piece of that bond with him, having a tattoo of Moose on the back of his head.
An expressive soul, Hunter shared his joy through music and dance, often capturing moments of him grooving to his favorite 90’s songs. His infectious spirit and laughter will be missed by all who knew him. Hunter was one of a kind and will never be replaced or forgotten by many he loved or befriended.
Hunter leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his wife Carlee, his cherished children, Willow, Cypress, and Aspen, and his devoted mother, Brenda Backlund, and stepfather, Ricky Backlund, along with his father, Bill Briscoe. He is also survived by his siblings: Riley Backlund, Justin Lardy, and Matt Allard, and his grandmothers, Carol Wagner and Linda Wellman. The warmth of his extended family, including his in-laws, Linda and Bob Huot, and a beloved uncle, Sidney Briscoe, will continue to hold his memory close to their hearts. Hunter also leaves behind his dear friend Courtney Giwoyna and her girls Emmeliah and Paislee.
With profound sadness, we share that Hunter, age 33, passed away on November 2, 2024, in rural Hawley, Minnesota. His spirit will forever be remembered in the love and laughter he brought into our lives. May he find peace in the great outdoors he cherished so much.
