Inez Genevieve Lavander, the daughter of Andrew and Nora (Blomquist) Lavander, was born in Oxlip, MN, on July 3, 1914. She grew up and received her education in the Oxlip area. Inez attended teachers college and taught school in Taylors Falls, MN, and in Cambridge, MN.
On June 11, 1939, Inez was married to Oscar V. "Occie" Johnson, in Isanti, MN. Following their marriage, they lived in Minot, ND, and in Fargo, ND, before making their home in Moorhead, MN in 1941. They have lived in Moorhead since. During holiday seasons, Inez worked as a sales clerk in retail stores, including Munson Luggage in Fargo. Inez was active in her church, First Congregational-United Church of Christ, and was a charter member of the Sweet Adelines in Fargo-Moorhead.
Inez died on Thursday, September 24, 2009, in Golden Living Center, Moorhead, at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died June 26, 2004; her parents; a sister, Bernice Nelson; and two brothers, Lawrence and Laurens Lavander.
Inez is survived by a son, Bradley (Kathy) Johnson, Moorhead; a daughter, Brenda (Jerry) Danzeisen, Hereford, AZ; four grandchildren, Brian and Kevin Johnson, Mia (Jamie) Teberg, and Christi (Dana) Moberg; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: One hour prior to the funeral, at the church.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at 2 PM, in First Congregational-United Church of Christ, Moorhead.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
