Ione M. Hammer, 80, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Hawley, MN, died Monday, October 13, 2008, in the Bemidji Hospital, Bemidji, MN.
Ione Michtildis Crowley was born March 24, 1928, to Frank and Ollie (Knutson) Crowley in Hawley, where she was raised and attended school. She earned her GED degree in 1981.
On June 14, 1948, Ione married Carl Hammer and they made their home in Hawley before moving to Detroit Lakes.
Ione eventually moved to Moorhead where for five years she was the housemother for the Alpha Phi Sorority at Moorhead State University. Ione then moved to Minneapolis, MN, to live with her daughter, Linda. After several years in Minneapolis, she returned to the F-M area.
Ione enjoyed reading, watching the Minnesota Vikings, and she loved dogs.
She is survived by four children, Linda Hammer Burns, Minneapolis, Maurice (Mary) Hammer, Tampa, FL, Francis Hammer, Indianapolis, IN, and Christine Hammer, San Francisco, CA; five grandchildren, Alicen Spaulding, Evan Burns, James Hammer, Patrick Hammer,
She was preceded in death by her parents; and five brothers, Francis, Jack, Vernon, David, and Curtis.
Visitation: Thursday from 9 - 10 AM at Hegland Lutheran Church, rural Hawley, MN.
Funeral: Thursday, October 16, 2008, at 10 AM in Hegland Lutheran Church.
Burial: Hawley Cemetery, Hawley.
