Iosif Maianu, the son of Nedelcu and Voica (Burtea) Maianu, was born September 25, 1937 in Bucharest, Romania. He grew up and received his education, including both his bachelors and master's degree's in Romania. On May 15, 1971, Iosif was united in marriage to Daniela Tutila in Bucharest. Following their marriage, they lived and worked in Romania.
In 1982, the family immigrated to the United States. The made their home in Fargo, ND. They have lived in Fargo since, except for two years, when they lived in Hendrum, MN. Iosif worked as an agricultural research specialist at NDSU in Fargo.
Iosif died at his home in Fargo, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at the age of 70.
He is survived by his wife, Daniela, Fargo; two daughters, Diana (Jermaine) Ruffin and Ligia Maianu, both New Jersey; two sons, and two grandsons, Marius (Christian) Maianu, and their son, Ferran, of Texas, and Octavian (Jenni) Maianu, and their son, Xavier, of Ohio; two brothers, Jon (Rodica) Maianu, Wilmar, MN, and Peter (Angela) Maianu, Colorado; and three sisters, Lidia Maianu, New York, Elizabeth (John) Wickberg, South Carolina, and Maria Nigh, Florida.
