Iris J. Swenson, 83, Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, in MeritCare Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND.
Iris was born May 20, 1926, to Edward and Anne (Boettcher) Wilhelm, in Arthur, ND. She graduated from Arthur High School and Concordia College.
Iris married A.J. "Bud" Swenson on August 27, 1950, in Fargo. Iris worked as a social worker for various county Social Service agencies including Polk, Clay, Wright, and Becker counties, as well as at Pine Manor Treatment Center, Nevis, MN.
After retirement, Iris volunteered for her church, at Hotline, and as a driver for Clay County Social Services. She served on the board of directors for PATH, was past President of the Fargo American Legion Auxiliary Post #2, past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star (Mecca Chapter 5), and was a member of TOPS and Al-Anon. For many years she wrote an Al-Anon article for the monthly newsletter "The Silver Dollar" of the AA Clubhouse in Fargo.
Iris's husband, Bud, died on June 16, 1986. She is survived by a son, Joe E. (Janice) Swenson, Brooklyn Center, MN; two sisters, Evelyn Bergdahl, San Pablo, CA, and Marian Wagner, Tacoma, WA; two grandchildren, Mary (David) Malinski and Sarah (Beau) Brandner; and four great-grandchildren, Alexander, Victor, Marcus and Ryder.
Memorials are preferred to Churches United.
Visitation: Saturday from 6 - 8 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Memorial Service: Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 5 PM in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Inurnment: Vergas Village Cemetery, Vergas, MN.
