Iris Monica Lord was born January 24, 1931, in Stanford le Hope, Orsett, England, to Luther and Daisy (Hockley) Lord. She married Robert Shannon in April, 1954, and they made their home in both England and the United States.
As a girl, Iris worked as a film projectionist, which helps explain how she always knew the names of even the most obscure actors and movie titles. She also loved books, especially Agatha Christie mysteries, and was usually reading two or three at a time.
After moving to the United States permanently in the 1970s, Iris began a career in banking and worked her way up from teller to branch manager. She was funny and kind, and kept her British accent - and bloody-mindedness - all of her life.
Iris raised four children whose families have spread out across the country: Robert Shannon, Youngtown, AZ, Michaela Shannon (Jeff Sank), Wake Forest, NC, Lisa (Mark) Nawrot, Fargo ND, and Michael (Jen) Grey, Springfield, OR. She also had ten grandchildren: Summer, Samantha, Kira, Kallisto, Alex, Michael, Avalon, Chloe, Andrew, and Zoe; and two great-grandchildren, Kailyn and Carter.
There will be a Gathering of Friends Monday, March 27, 2017, from 5 - 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.
