Irma L. Hanson, 89, Fargo, ND, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, in Pioneer House, Fargo, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Irma LaRose Tvedt, the daughter of Peter and Ida (Nelson) Tvedt, was born Jan. 22, 1920, in Newfolden, MN, where she grew up and received her education. She graduated from high school in Newfolden in 1937, and then moved to Fargo, where she worked at Scherling Studio.
On Oct. 13, 1940, Irma married Helmer Hanson in Newfolden. They lived in Fargo, and in Detroit, MI, prior to Helmer entering the service. While Helmer was in the service, Irma moved with him to Denver, CO, Fresno, CA, San Francisco, CA, and San Antonio, TX. Irma worked at the Army Air Corps base in Fresno. After his discharge, the family moved to Fargo, where they have lived since.
Irma was a faithful wife, and loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, walking, traveling, and taking care of others. Irma and Helmer treasured the time they spent at Lake Lida. She was an active volunteer at Elim Care Center-Pioneer House in Fargo, and at MeritCare Hospital. Irma was especially active in her church, Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Fargo.
She is survived by her husband, Helmer, Fargo; a daughter, Carolyn (Rich) Sommer, Stevens Point, WI; two sons, David (Pam) Hanson, Dousman, WI, and Daryl (Carla) Hanson, Aberdeen, SD; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Shawn (Lonnie) Sommer, and their children, Lia, Ian and Ela, Laura (Bill) O'Brien, and Kristianna, Brittany, Allison, Kristen and Erica Hanson; brother, Don (Pat) Tweet; three sisters, Marlys (Clarence) Peterson of Fargo, Bernette Reed and Pearl Nelson.
In addition to her parents, Irma was preceded in death by five grandchildren, three brothers, and a sister.
Memorials preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley or the MeritCare Foundation.
Visitation: One hour prior to the funeral service.
Funeral Service: Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at 1 PM in the Chapel of Elim-Pioneer House, 3540 University Drive S, Fargo.
