Ivan M. Hovey

July 30, 1951 — May 5, 2008

Ivan Melby Hovey, 56, Pelican Rapids, MN, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at his home on Bass Lake after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ivan was born July 30, 1951, at St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo, ND, the son of Carl and Ruth (Melby) Hovey. He was raised in Moorhead, MN, where he graduated from Moorhead High School. He went on to attend Concordia College. In 1971 Ivan enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in San Antonio, TX.

Ivan married his high school sweetheart, Kathryn Kath, on February 12, 1972. After fulfilling his military commitment, they returned to Moorhead where he completed his degree at Moorhead State University. Ivan began his career as a stock broker. In 1983, he became manager of the Fargo EF Hutton office, now Smith Barney. For 25 years he looked forward to going to a job he loved.

Ivan treasured living at the lake. He enjoyed downhill skiing, Mexico beaches, riding his Harley, and spending time with his family and friends. Above all Ivan desired to faithfully serve Jesus in all he did.

He will be missed by his wife, Kathryn; two daughters, Sara (David) Ness, and Jill (Ryan) Schurman, both of Moorhead, MN; a son, Peter Hovey, Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren; two brothers, John (Mary) Hovey and Mark (Susie) Hovey, both of San Diego, CA; and a sister, Pamela (Gary) Lucas, Chandler, AZ.
