James Albert Chloupek was born July 3, 1935, in Fargo, ND, to Raymond and Bernadette (Weber) Chloupek. He was raised in Dilworth, MN, where he graduated from high school in 1953.
Jim attended Moorhead (MN) State University and then entered the US Army on April 24, 1958. Following his discharge on April 22, 1960, he returned to the area and worked for the Northern Pacific Railway. He began as a fireman but later moved to switchman and brakeman.
Jim was married to Donna Perkins in Dilworth, on June 30, 1966, and they made their home in Dilworth. Due to health concerns, Jim retired in 1990, and they continued to enjoy summers at their cabin on Lake Ida.
With his family by his side, Jim died Thursday, March 17, 2005, in MeritCare Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, at sixty-nine years of age. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Jim is survived by his wife, Donna, Dilworth; three children, Joseph (Carol), Fort Lauderdale, FL, Timothy "Tig" (Beth), Dilworth, and Heide (Gary) Delorme, Casselton, ND; eight grandchildren; two brothers, John (Carolyn), Phoenix, AZ, and Phil "Butch" (Sue), Moorhead; and three sisters, Margaret McGough, Glendale, AZ, Mary Wright, Fargo, and Suzie Wilson, Dilworth.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine and Irene.
A gathering of friends will be Sunday, March 20, 2005, from 5 - 8 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. A memorial service will be Monday, March 21, 2005, at 10 AM, in the Korsmo Chapel. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
