James A. Fobes

James Arthur Fobes was born February 8, 1934, in Moorhead, MN, to Joseph and Florence (Peterson) Fobes. Florence died shortly after Jim was born and Joe married Helen Langseth. Together, they raised their family in the Glyndon, MN, area where Jim received his education.

Jim married Joanne Peterson on April 28, 1956, in Glyndon, where they made their home. He entered the US Army in October of 1956 and served for two years. He returned to his family after his discharge.

Jim worked 48 years for American Crystal Sugar, Moorhead, until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoor country life with his family and friends. Jim also liked to restore old John Deere tractors.

Jim died Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Essentia Health, Fargo, at eighty-two years of age.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne, Glyndon; daughter, Pennie Raftevold (Dan Busche), New York Mills, MN; son, Jeffrey (Julie) Fobes, Moorhead; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Joanne Lynch, Bellingham, WA; and a sister-in-law, Glenda (Dennis) Fobes-Ziemer, Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother; a sister, Evelyn; and a brother, Maurie.

Visitation will be 5 - 7 PM, followed by a funeral at 7 PM, Monday, May 2, 2016, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon.
