James E. Fay, 82, Moorhead, MN, died at home on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, under the care of Hospice.
Jim was born June 4, 1928, in Moorhead to James F. and Emma (Thedens) Fay. He joined the US Army in 1946 after graduating from Moorhead High School. When he completed his service, he returned to Moorhead and attended North Dakota Agricultural College (now NDSU) graduating with a business degree in 1953.
He married Beverly Adamy in September of 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moorhead. They made their home in Moorhead where they raised 3 children.
Jim worked for Amerland Company from 1953 until 2010, serving as President since the early 1970's. In 1961, Jim was President of the Fargo Board of Realtors. He was Realtor of the Year in 1962, and received the Distinguished Service Award in 1992. Jim was also a member of the Exchange Club of Fargo, F-M Sales and Marketing, the Moorhead Athletic Association and served as an usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church for fifty years.
Jim was an avid sports fan routinely following the Moorhead Spuds, NDSU Bison, MSUM Dragons and Concordia Cobbers. He attended over 50 Minnesota state track meets, 25 Drake Relays, 4 U.S.A Olympic Track and Field Team Trials and was an early member of the NDSU Team Makers Club. Many students of St. Joseph's School learned basketball skills from his âWednesday Night' basketball program, which he conducted for over 10 years. Jim spent many summers driving across North Dakota following a busload of teenagers to track meets.
Jim is survived by his wife, Beverly; their children, Susan Knapp, Elizabethtown, KY, James (Ann) M. Fay, Hugo, MN, and William (Linda) Fay, Woodbury, MN; grandchildren, Michael (Nichole) Knapp, Ryan Knapp, Allie (Michael) Bryan, Kelly Knapp, Erin Fay, Ja
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Fay.
Visitation: Today from 5 - 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Memorial Mass: Friday, March 11, 2011, at 11 AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Inurnment: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery
