James "Jim" Edward Empting Jr., was born September 16, 1926, to Margaret and James Empting in Dilworth, MN. After high school in Dilworth, he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific on the USS Siboney during WWII.
After his discharge, he married Tillie, had their children and, like his father before him, became a "Railroad Man" on the Northern Pacific Railway, until his retirement at age sixty-one. He had his second career (thirty-one years) as "A Retired Guy" honed to perfection: wood shop, car garage, snow-blowing ("accidentally" occasionally onto a neighbor's car), and was an active member of Dilworth Lutheran Church. Jim later married Betty LaGrow in Dilworth Lutheran Church and they made their home in Dilworth.
Jim was a hard-working man, and a good provider for his family. Like many of that "Greatest Generation" that went through a true Depression and a World War, he had a perspective of what "the big things" are (versus sweating the "small stuff") and an enduring sense of "can do" about life and his nation. He and his generation will be missed, but not forgotten.
Jim was 93 when he passed Friday, October 11, 1019, in BeeHive Homes, Moorhead, MN.
He is survived by his lovely wife, Betty (they were truly devoted to one another); his three children, Larry, Steve and Susan; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Dilworth Lutheran Church.
