James A. Honek, 73, Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, April 22, 2025, in Elim Rehab and Care Center, Fargo.
James “Jim” Arthur Honek was born to George and Ellen (Hendrickson) Honek on July 15, 1951, in Mahnomen, MN. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Elementary School where he served as an altar boy.
Jim was a cute kid who loved mashed potatoes and ate a mountain of them at every Sunday lunch. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1969. Jim played basketball, golf and tennis in his school days. He won a trip to Atlantic City, while in high school, for his excellence in the DECA program, which is a career and technical program that prepares students for college and careers.
Jim was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, Timberwolves and the Twins win games.
He received an AA Degree from Moorhead Technical College. He worked for Tempo Stores, Inc. and moved to South Dakota, Salt Lake City, UT, and the Seattle, WA, area. Jim then returned to the FM area and worked for the Moorhead School District until his retirement.
He is survived by a son, Brandon (Andrea) Honek of Fargo; a daughter, Bridgette (Nick) Frane of Marysville, WA; two grandsons, Jaxsen and Dayton of Marysville; and siblings, Marilyn (Jerry) James of California, Jerry (Laurie) Honek of Moorhead, Patricia (Bruce) Leonard of Fargo, and Michael (Michele) Honek of Dilworth, MN.
