James "Jim" Ness

James “Jim” Ness, 83, Moorhead, MN, left this world and entered the gates of heaven, his eternal home on October 2, 2022. Jim lived trusting his Lord & Savior and claiming His promises.

James Allan Ness was born on June 16, 1939, in a house in Wolverton, Minnesota to Ralph and Mary (Nellermoe) Ness, the sixth of nine children. He was baptized and confirmed at the Norwegian Lutheran Church (now Faith Lutheran) in Wolverton. He attended school in Comstock, MN through his junior year in high school and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1957. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962 as an Interior Communications Electrician/Petty Officer, Second Class. Jim sang in the Navy Bluejacket’s Choir and served in the Atlantic Fleet on the USS Pillsbury, Arcadia, Essex, and the aircraft carrier Constellation (CVA-64). On October 20, 1962, he married Janith “Jan” Cook at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, Minnesota. Jim and Jan raised their three children on their family farm southwest of Comstock, where they farmed for 40 years. Jim was so blessed by the vocation of farming God provided for him.

Jim is survived by his three children, Brian (Mike Weiss); Nancy (Paul Ernst) and their children Andrew (Carmen) and Konrad; David (Sara) and their children Daniel, Samuel, and Rachel; one great grandchild, Evelyn Ernst; eight siblings, Marilyn Corneliussen, Norma Olsgaard, Darlene Leach, Royal (Shari) Ness, Wallace (Audrey) Ness, Larry (Judy) Ness, Carolyn (Kenny) Kuehl, and Anna Mae Greene; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jan; his parents, Ralph and Mary Ness; brothers-in-law, Ted Olsgaard, Lea Greene, and Roger Corneliussen; nephews, David Leach and Peter Olsgaard; and niece, Paula Rodgers.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, hunting, refinishing furniture, traveling with Jan and listening to good music. He was so grateful for his church family at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church and was blessed to have served as an elder there. Reading and studying God’s Word was a very important part of his life. He shared copies of Scripture with others through his service with Gideons International and was enthusiastic about proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. He loved the Lord and we have the assurance that he is enjoying eternity with Him.

Jim spent the final two years of his life at BeeHive Homes in Moorhead. His family is incredibly grateful for the family atmosphere, loving friendships, and amazing care they faithfully provided for him.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church in Moorhead from 5:00-7:00 PM with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service and time of sharing. The Funeral Service for Jim will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 11:00 AM, also at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church.
