James "Jim" Kava died unexpectedly on December 7, 2015, in Fort Mojave, AZ, at the age of 65. Jim is survived by his wife, Linda (Rasmussen) Kava; his children Erick (Melissa) Kava, Errin James (Megan) Kava, Rachel (Ryan) Hoffman; and grandchildren, Peyton, Korey, Gabe, Lane, Levi and Braylynn.
Jim was born on January 13, 1950, in St. Ansgar Hospital, Moorhead, MN. He was the second of eight children born to Lawrence and Elaine Kava. He is survived by his siblings, Phyllis (Jerome) Miller, Prior Lake, MN, Joseph (Carolyn) Kava, Hawley, MN, Cecelia (Michael) Dolan, Edina, MN, Katherine (Thomas) Askegaard, Comstock, MN, Frank (Special friend, Patty Wiczek) Kava, Barnesville, MN, Rebecca (Dana) Eggiman, Barnesville, and Diane (Larry) Cook, Farmington, MN.
Jim graduated from Barnesville High in 1969. In 1972, Jim married the love of his life and best friend, Linda Rasmussen. They enjoyed traveling, trips on Jim's Harley Trike, and working in their garden at the lake.
In 1974, Jim started Kava Construction, Inc. With a strong work ethic and a passion for what he did, he enjoyed many years of success in the grain industry.
Jim had an impact and helped so many people throughout his life. He loved North Dakota with all his heart, loved the NDSU Bison, loved the lake life with his fire and a glass of whiskey, loved fishing and boating with all of his family, loved all his kids and grandkids more than anything and he showed them that love every time he saw them.
A celebration of Jim's life is scheduled for Friday, December 18, 2015, in the Avalon Event Center West, 2525 9th Avenue S, Fargo, from 2 to 5 PM. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers please send donations to The Salvation Army.
