James L. Oberg

July 25, 1924 — February 20, 2011

James was born in Fargo, ND, on July 25, 1924, to Gudmund and Myrtle (Grinde) Oberg. He attended Kragnes Elementary and graduated from Moorhead Campus School. Shortly thereafter, he joined the US Marine Corps. and served his country in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged.

On April 10, 1947, James married Norma Jean Fischer at North Buffalo Church near Kragnes. They lived in the Dilworth area and Tucson, AZ, for many years. James operated a motor grader for all of his working years in road construction.

James and Jean returned to the Dilworth area in the late 1980s. James was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Dilworth, and a life member of the VFW and American Legion.
James L. Oberg, 86, Dilworth, MN, died Sunday, February 20, 2011, in the Golden Living Center, Moorhead, MN.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean, Moorhead; son, Michael, Dilworth; 1 granddaughter; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Elmer (Alys) Oberg, Marlin (Jeanette) Oberg, and Ernie (Wilma) Oberg; and one sister, Joan (Duane) Erickson.

James was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and John; and two sisters, Frances Domek and Mildred Kuehl.


Visitation: Wednesday from 5 - 7 PM at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral: Thursday, February 24, 2010 at 1 PM at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Dilworth.
