James Noonan

April 3, 1923 — February 14, 2012

Jim Noonan, 88, Bad Medicine Lake, MN died February 14, 2012 of natural causes in Fargo, ND.
Jim Noonan was born April 3, 1923 in Leonard, ND. After graduating from high school in 1941, he attended North Dakota Agricultural College, now known as NDSU. During college he played and lettered in football, basketball, track and baseball before leaving to join the U.S. Navy in 1942 until 1946 as an Ensign U.S.N.R. He returned to NDAC in 1946 to complete his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education 1948. Jim's love for education earned him his Masters Degree in 1952 and his Doctorate of Education Degree in 1968 from the University of North Dakota.
Jim held teaching and administrative positions in Page, ND (1948-1955), East Grand Forks, MN (1955-1962), Moorhead, MN (1962-1974), and East Grand Forks, MN (1974-1985) where he retired. He was able to keep busy with several interim positions with area schools until he ended on the White Earth Indian Reservation in 1995.
Jim's appreciation of nature and the outdoors took him and his wife of 60 years (Patricia) to Bad Medicine Lake in 1985. There, they were able to enjoy time with their seven children: Bob, Bill, Bruce, Mark, Joan, Mike and Jim. The addition of spouses, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren made for more entertaining times and many happy memories at the lake.

Jim will be remembered as an intellectual, easy going, spiritual, fun loving, inspirational person that touched and influenced so many of us.

Gathering of Friends will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012, from 1 PM to 5 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, should be sent to your favorite charity in Jim's honor.
