James "Jim" D. Ohnstad, 77, Argusville, ND, died Saturday, August 30, 2008, in the Golden Living Center, Moorhead, MN.

James Duane Ohnstad was born July 30, 1931, on the family farmstead in rural Argusville to Bennie and Lucille (Kolosky) Ohnstad. He attended Pleasant Valley District 61 rural school.

In 1952, Jim enlisted with the Marines and served during the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan during this time and was a crew chief in charge of armored vehicle repairs traveling to Korea as needed. Upon his discharge in 1954, he returned home and on November 10, 1956, he married Susan Fischer in Georgetown, MN. They made their home on a farmstead in rural Argusville where they raised their family and Jim farmed and worked for various companies. He was a diesel mechanic and welder until his retirement.

Jim was a life-long member of the Moorhead VFW and a forty-nine year member of the Gardner (ND) American Legion. He also served on the Pleasant Valley school board. He was an inventor and could fix just about anything. Jim's gentle, soft-spoken personality brought him many friends. He loved to tell jokes and stories and always had a good sense of humor. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, farming and making home-made soup.

Jim is lovingly survived by his wife, Susan, Argusville; four children, Julie (Jim) Scoville, West Fargo, ND, Kevin (Teresa) Ohnstad and Bennett Ohnstad, both of Argusville, and Jennifer (Randy Benson) Ohnstad, Waubun, MN; eight grandchildren; three grea

Visitation: Wednesday from 5 - 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.


Funeral: Thursday, September 4, 2008, at 10:30 AM, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Georgetown.


Burial: Wild Rose Cemetery, Georgetown.
