Jane Collins Heckert was born May 19, 1915, in Wellsville, OH, to Edward and Margaret (Carey) Collins. She grew up in Wellsville and attended Immaculate Conception Church. Jane graduated from Wellsville High School in 1933, and earned her registered nurse degree from Youngstown Hospital School of Nursing in 1937. Jane worked in general surgery and eye surgery for five years.
In 1942, Jane married Don Heckert from Youngstown. They moved to Clearwater, FL, where he was stationed at Drew Field before shipping out to Okinawa. After Don was discharged from the army, the couple moved to Green Bay, WI, where he worked for Fairmont Foods. In 1952, they moved to Moorhead, MN, where Don was promoted to General Manager of Fairmont Foods. Don retired in 1976.
Jane and Don were active in community affairs and liked to travel. They enjoyed trips across the United States, Europe, Hawaii, and various cruises.
Jane attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moorhead where she was a member of the Christian Mothers. She was also a member of Chapter "O" PEO.
Jane was an avid card player; her favorite was Bridge. She liked sports and was a Green Bay Packers fan. She took up golf at age 75 and had a hole in one at El Zagal Golf Course when she was 77. Jane went parasailing over the Pacific in Hawaii when she was 70. She went gliding over the desert in Arizona and whitewater rafting in Montana.
Jane died peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2013, in the presence of her family, at Sanford Health Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND, at ninety-eight years of age.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eunice; brother, Richard; husband, Don; and daughter, Margaret.
She is survived by her sons, John (Bette) of Peoria, AZ, and Bob (Irene) of Shawnee, KS; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Jeri Collins in California; and many good friends.
Visitation for Jane will be Monday, June 24, 2013, from 5 - 6 PM, with a prayer service at 6 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
The funeral mass will be Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at 11 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
Memorials may be given to the Cancer or Heart Fund, or the charity of your choice.
