Jane L. Hendricks

Jane Leslie Nelson, daughter of Leslie and Florence (Warner) Nelson was born in 1934 in Graceville, MN. She grew up and received her education in Graceville.

In 1952, Jane attended college at Moorhead State University and acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. In 1974, Jane received her Master's degree in Liberal Arts at Moorhead State University. Jane was a teacher at the Early Childhood Center at Moorhead State University from 1971 to 1999. Her passion for children and teaching impacted the lives of many. "Teacher Jane" was patient, kind, encouraging, and sensible! She gave many preschoolers a strong start in life.

On August 20, 1955, Jane married her high school sweetheart, Gerald Hendricks. They made their home in Fargo until 1959 at which time they moved to Moorhead and raised their family of seven children. Jane and Jerry enjoyed their retirement years in Fargo and Phoenix where they enjoyed golf, friends and family.

Jane will be remembered for her positive attitude, her lifelong desire to learn, and her compassion for children. She could find the good in anything! She enjoyed the simple things in life; laughing until she cried, attending golf outings with her sisters, sharing a beer on the patio or sipping a hot cup of tea with a good book, and time spent with her family.

Jane is survived by her husband of 60 years, Gerald Hendricks, her mother, Florence Nelson, Graceville; her children Bruce Hendricks, Houston, TX, Laurie (Mark) Pitsenbarger, Minneapolis, MN, Bonnie (Gerald) Delaney, Waconia, MN, Leslie (Tim) Masterson, Hopkins, MN, Kristi (Robert Miner) Hendricks, Minneapolis, Kimberly Bacca, Firestone, CO and Bradley Hendricks, Arvada, CO; 14 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren who fondly call her 'Granny'; and her siblings, Phyllis (Arlo) Andrews, Richard (Patricia) Nelson, Frances (Marilyn) Nelson, Warner Nelson, and Carol (Dalas) Weisz. Jane was preceded in death by her father, Leslie Nelson.

Memorials preferred to St. Joseph's School, 1005 2nd Ave. S., Moorhead.

A memorial mass will be held on Monday, September 21, 2015, at 11 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Graceville.
