Jane Naomi Murakami, 63, of Northfield MN, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2020. She was born on January 29, 1957, in Northfield MN, the daughter of Yosh, a longtime Northfield music teacher, and Miki Murakami.
Jane was a loving person with a big heart for family, friends, those she worked with and especially children and dogs. She adored children! One could see the delight on her face and joy in her eyes when she was holding a baby and making her laugh and giggle. Her fun personality, laughter and great sense of humor earned her the title, "Best Aunt and Best Storyteller Ever". She was also known to be quite the dog whisperer. Jane loved her nieces and nephews and went over the top to show them she was there for them.
Jane graduated from Moorhead High School, Moorhead MN in 1975, and continued on to college where she received a degree in social work from St Olaf College, Northfield. Her compassion for others led her to jobs within her occupation which allowed her to help, equip and encourage others on their journey.
Jane liked learning and had great interest in her Japanese heritage. The courage of her parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents during and following the war at Pearl Harbor was of great interest to her. She always remembered the stories. As she talked about her family history, determination and strength were the characteristics she would use to describe the generations before her. All who loved her saw that same strength in her as well.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents Yosh Murakami and Miki Sveinson. She is survived by brothers Paul (Suzi) Murakami, Edina, MN, Stephen (Bette) Murakami, Cameron Park, CA and Jon Murakami, Eustis, FL; seven nephews and nieces, Michael, Molly, Isaac, Austin, Andrew, Charissa and Alyssa; and five great nieces and nephews, Ka'imi, Avila, Nora, Ezra and Maeve.
Jane never forgot a face or a name, and it will not be possible to ever forget "Auntie Jane". She will be loved and remembered always.
