Jane Kegel, 72, Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, September 13, 2003, in her home in Moorhead.
Ellen Jane Shea was born in Fargo, ND, on October 8, 1930, to Laura (Duffy) and Eugene Timothy Shea. Following the death of her mother in 1935, her aunt, Agnes Duffy, raised Jane. She attended school in Fargo, graduating from Sacred Heart High School and North Dakota Agricultural College. Jane began a life-long career in education as a teacher in Harvey, ND, and then Mandan, ND.
Jane married Robert Earl Walker on June 4, 1955. She and Robert lived and farmed in Traill County until Robert's death in 1970. During their time on the farm she taught English and Mathematics in Kindred, Clifford-Galesburg and Mayville-Portland. In 1979, Jane completed a Masters in Education at North Dakota State University and later attained a Doctor of Philosophy in Education at the University of North Dakota.
On March 4, 1978, Jane married David Kegel and resided in Moorhead. Upon completion of her Ph.D., Jane continued her teaching passion as a senior lecturer in the English and Education departments at North Dakota State University until her retirement in 1994.
Jane was an impassioned educator who touched the lives of many young minds during her teaching career. She was an active contributor to Delta Kappa Gamma Society International where she held offices at the local, state and international levels. Jane was also a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter Co. As a respected educator, Jane received the Robert Odney Award for Excellence in Teaching at NDSU in 1994. She was also the recipient of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society Distinguished Citation Award.
In addition to her passion for education, Jane was gifted in quilting, needlework and knitting and shared those talents generously with her family and friends. She was a gifted writer, researching and scripting numerous family histories and cookbooks. S

Her parents, Timothy and Laura Shea; her husbands, Robert Walker and David Kegel; a son, Timothy Walker;a grandson, Andrew Kegel; her aunt, Agnes Duffy; and brothers-in-law, Daniel and Benjamin Walker; preceded her in death.
Jane loved her work, her students, her community, her friends, and especially her family. She will be greatly missed.
