Janice Linde, Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully to her eternal home on Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, at the age of 90.
Janice Kathleen Nelson, known as "Jackie" to her side of the family, was born December 30, 1921, to Edward and Elfreda (Matthieson) Nelson, in Hardwick, MN. She grew up on the family farm, near Ayr, ND, and graduated from Erie (ND) High School in 1939. She received her teaching certificate from Bemidji (MN) State University in 1941, and dedicated the next ten years of her life to teaching elementary students in Lake Bronson, Stephen, and Staples, MN, and in Lind, WA.
An accomplished pianist, Janice began working at Daveau's Music Store in Fargo, ND, in 1951. It was there she met Erling Linde, a music student at Concordia College. They were married August 9, 1953, at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Their married life began in Cando, ND, and they returned to Moorhead in 1956.
In her years in Moorhead, Janice was active in the women's circles and music ministries at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and The Lutheran Church of Christ the King. She also taught many piano students and was employed at Nels Vogel Music. Janice was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon and the FM Symphony Women's Association.
Janice's role as wife, mother, and grandmother was her greatest joy. She was a wonderful housekeeper and cook, and treasured family meals around the dining room table. She and Erling enjoyed traveling in their retirement; visiting Europe, Hawaii, and many southern states.
Janice is survived by her husband of 59 years, Erling H. Linde, Moorhead; son, David (Deb Toso) Linde, Corcoran, MN; daughter, Jane (Rodney) Linde Capistran, Fargo; son, Eric (Kristen Olson) Linde, Minneapolis, MN; six grandchildren, Andrew Linde, New York, NY, Alayna Linde, Eugene, OR, Madeline Capistran, Chicago, IL, Stuart Capistran, St. Paul, MN, and Nikolas and Annika Linde, Minneapolis; brother, Gary (Dorene) Nelson, Ayr, ND; and sister, Jean Hanson, St. Paul, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joyce DeCesare; and brother, William Nelson.
