Jason R. Karls, 50, of Dent, MN, passed away from cancer on Saturday, May 18, 2024, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Jason Roger Karls was born on December 29, 1973, to Roger and Delayne (Stadsvold) Karls, in Fargo, ND. Jason was raised in Fargo. He attended high school at Fargo South High School, where he was active in ROTC. Jason graduated from high school in 1992. After high school, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Nimitz, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. After the Navy, he attended school at Central Lake College, Staples, MN and went on to work as an engineer for the Canadian Pacific Railroad for 18 years.
Jason enjoyed fishing on Lake Ida when he was younger. He loved playing video games and mowing the lawn. Jason lived at his home on eight acres of land with his cat and dog. He appreciated the quietness of living far away from most people.
Jason is survived by his mother, Delayne “DeeDee” Karls, Moorhead, MN; sister, Amy (Michael Markert) Karls, Sedona, AZ; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his good friend, Chris Dahl, who helped care for him as his illness progressed.
He is preceded in death by his father, Roger; grandparents, Frank and Bunny Stadsvold, and David and Mary Karls.
Jason’s memorial service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 11 AM, with a visitation one hour prior in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Moorhead following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
