On February 17, 2012, at 7 PM, Jean Bjerke, age 73, of Moorhead, MN, lost her battle with PCP pneumonia, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.
Jean Phillips, the daughter of R.A. "Tex" and Lenore (Olsen) Phillips, was born March 16, 1938, in Moorhead. Jean grew up in Dilworth, MN, where she graduated from high school in 1956. She also attended Business College in Fargo.
In 1958, Jean married Ron Samuelson. They lived in Moorhead, Wahpeton, ND, Hawley, MN, and on Pelican Lake in MN. Over the years, Jean worked for the Postal service in various towns including Hawley, Dilworth and Moorhead. She also worked for Moorhead Public Schools and at True Value Home and Hardware in Moorhead.
On September 29, 1984, Jean married Loren Bjerke. They made their home in Moorhead. Jean was a scrapbooker, and worked as a "Creative Memories" consultant. She was proud of her Irish heritage and "loved Elvis". She seemed to know just about everyone and had a large circle of close friends. Some of her best friends were the women she did water aerobics with three or four mornings a week. Jean loved sports and especially enjoyed her grandchildren's sporting events. Jean and Loren enjoyed summers with the family on Leek Lake, near Vergas, MN. They spent 11 of the last 13 winters at Lake Havasu City, AZ.
Jean is survived by her husband, Loren, Moorhead; six children, Craig (Jodi) Samuelson, Barnesville, MN, Tom (Staci) Samuelson, Highlands Ranch, CO, John (Mary) Samuelson, Minnetonka, MN, Mardi (Perry) Eidem, Moorhead, Scott (Laura) Bjerke, Perham, MN, and Julie (Doug) Durgin, Fargo; her mother-in-law, Pearl Bjerke, Moorhead; a brother, James (Jan) Phillips, Moorhead; and 15 grandchildren, Carly, Matthew, Keenan, Reece, McKenna, Jack, and Katie Samuelson, Corey (Leslie) and Kelli Eidem, Alec, Jenna and Max Bjerke, Abby and Andrew Lein, and Kendall Durgin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Belle Rae Krueger, and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Phillips.
