Jean L. Eidsmoe

Jean Leatrice (Haugstad) Eidsmoe, 90, Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Essentia Health, in Fargo, ND.

Jean was born in Hillsboro, ND, on August 5, 1927, to Bernt and Anna (Thompson) Haugstad. She grew up in Cummings, ND, and graduated from Climax (MN) High School in 1946.

Jean married Melbert Eidsmoe on June 15, 1947. They moved to Minneapolis, MN, where Jean worked as a seamstress in the Lee jeans factory and Mel attended Railroad School. They lived in Averill, Bemidji, Detroit Lakes and Moorhead, all MN. Jean raised her children and then worked as a seamstress at Shotwells in Fargo. She later started her own drapery business, DL Drapery Studios.

Jean loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren and even though she was legally blind, she would travel by bus and air to visit them across the country. She loved to dance, sew, cook, bake, make quilts and decorate cakes throughout her life. She gave so much of her love, time and help to her children, grandchildren and others. Her children and family treasure their lives with her and will keep loving memories of her in their hearts forever.

She is survived by one sister, Theresa (Tess) Grover, Loma Linda, CA; one son, Bruce (Debra), Moorhead; four daughters, Marcy (Jeff) Shoemaker, Harlingen, TX, Jan Alswager (Gary Blauer), Apple Valley, MN, Diane (Bryan) Nordhougen, Fargo, and Carrie Eidsmoe (Tyson Caffo), Marina del Rey, CA; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and ten stepgreat-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Mel; her parents; three sisters; and one brother.

Visitation will be from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, Friday, May 18, 2018, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Her funeral will be 2 PM, Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead.

Burial will follow in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
