Jean S Boothroyd

Jean Susanne (Dalen) Boothroyd, 88, Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, in ManorCare Health Service, Fargo, ND.
Jean was born September 8, 1926, on the family farm near Georgetown, MN, one of ten children of George and Mary (Wambach) Dalen. She graduated from Hendrum High School in 1946, where she was active in chorus, the Annual staff, and was Homecoming Queen in her senior year. On April 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Howard A. Boothroyd in Georgetown.
She worked various jobs including TV modeling, waitressing for many years at the Comstock Hotel, Colonnade Room and King's Food Host, and then twenty-seven years for the Moorhead Food Service at George Washington Elementary School, retiring in June of 2003, at age 75. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and St Francis de Sales Church.
Jean always worked extremely hard and was a wonderful caregiver throughout her life, especially for her mother, father-in-law, and husband. Through most of Jean's life, she spent time with or spoke with her siblings every day.
Jean enjoyed playing bingo and visiting with the VFW and American Legion crowds and before that at the Teamster Union Hall. She was an excellent cook and baker (especially for holidays). She enjoyed gardening, also loved a good sale and the lay-away system.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Judy (Doug) Davis, Spokane, WA, Don (Peg) Boothroyd, Richfield, MN, Jim (Jean) Boothroyd, Moorhead, and Mary (Leo) Boothroyd, Moorhead; two sisters, Georgia (Merle) Taylor, Moorhead, and Violet Stein, Pelican Rapids, MN; sister-in-law, Gail Dalen, Moorhead; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; five sisters, Elsie Jacobson, Irene Nickerson, Rose Eberhardt, Evelyn Kroshus, and Virginia Brainerd; and two brothers, George and General Dalen.
Please join the Boothroyd family for a CELEBRATION OF LIFE in honor of our beloved Mother, Jean Boothroyd, on Thursday June 11, 2015, from 2 PM to 5 PM in the American Legion Post 21, 303 30th Street North, Moorhead.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 12, 2015, at 11 AM in St. Francis de Sales Church, Moorhead, with a gathering one hour prior to service.
Interment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, after the service.
