Jeanne M. Walker

Jeanne M. Walker, Age 79, of Moorhead, MN, after a determined, steadfast struggle with cancer - showing so much strength and grace - passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, surrounded by her loving family, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Jeanne Marie Thompson was born on September 19, 1939, the daughter of Frank W. Thompson, Sr. and Adeline (Stohle) Thompson, on the family farm, Clay County, rural Baker, MN. She was raised there and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1957.

Jeanne's first job at the age of 18 was with American State Bank. She then became a licensed realtor and started Red River Realty. She also owned and operated a consignment shop N' Everything Nice.

She married Basil D. Walker in 1961. She gave birth to two daughters who they raised, René and Laura, along with being a foster home to several children over the years.

She was very involved in her church, First Presbyterian Church of Moorhead, volunteering at Churches United for the Homeless, and an advocate for Reach to Recovery for breast cancer survivors. She worked for Eide Helmeke and Shearson Lehman Hutton. In her mid-40's she started working at State Bank & Trust Company in finance until retirement.

Jeanne's hobbies were playing piano, baking, playing Yahtzee, gardening, travelling the world, doing Bible studies, connecting with neighbors and friends, and spending time with family, close friends, and her grandchildren. She enjoyed giving back and making others feel special. She found her greatest joy when surrounded by loved ones.

She is survived by her brother, Frank (Judy) Thompson, Jr. of Audubon, MN; sister, Janet (Jim) Noble of Clintonville, WI; sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Thompson of Barnesville, MN; sister-in-law, Joan Thompson of Moorhead; daughter, René (Duane) Parke of Fargo; daughter, Laura (Ron) Knoll of Fargo; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved grandchildren, Cameron, Lauren, and Evan Knoll. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Tom and Fred; husband, Basil; foster daughter, Beverly, and an infant daughter and twin sons.

A Gathering of Friends will be from 5 to 7PM, Friday, May 17, 2019, with a Prayer Service at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. A Gathering of Friends will continue on Saturday, an hour before the service. A Celebration of Life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Baker, MN, at 11 AM on Saturday, May 18, 2019, with a burial to be held for close family following in Elmwood Cemetery, Sabin, MN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations be made to Churches United Shelter for the Homeless, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of choice.
