Jerome L. Kersting

April 8, 1914 — November 15, 2006

Jerome Leon Kersting was born on April 8, 1914, to Gerhard and Suzanne (Weller) Kersting in rural Waubun, MN, where he grew up, attended country school and worked on the family farm.

Jerome enlisted in the Army and upon his discharge he returned to Waubun. He married Renetta E. Steffes on June 20, 1949, in Andover, SD, and they made their home in Mahnomen where Jerome owned and operated the LB Hartz Store.

Jerome then won a seat as a Mahnomen County Judge, serving for thirty-two years before his retirement. Jerome and Renetta enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and their summers at Lake Ida. In 1999, they moved to Moorhead, MN. Renetta died on January 21, 2003, and Jerome continued to make his home in Moorhead.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and could often being found playing his favorite sport, golf. Most important to Jerome, was his family and his faith.

Jerome died Wednesday, November 15, 2006, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, at the age of ninety-two.

He is survived by four sons, Barry (Kim), Goodyear, AZ, Darrel (Carol), Grand Rapids, MN, Loren (Monica), West Fargo, ND, and Myron, Gilbert, AZ; a daughter, Monica (Dave) Douglas, Moorhead; a brother, Lawrence (Fran) Kersting, Albany, NY; twelve grandch

The visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 - 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
The Memorial Mass will be on Monday, November 20, 2006, at 10:30 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead. Inurnment to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
