Joel DeWandeler

Joel DeWandeler, 64, of Dilworth, MN, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017, of natural causes, at a truck stop in Watertown, SD.

Joel Edwin DeWandeler, the son of Frank and Elvira (Jordan) DeWandeler, was born in Park Rapids, MN, on October 30, 1952. He grew up and received his education in the Park Rapids- Ponsford, MN, area.

As a young man, Joel worked on the Iron Range in northern Minnesota, and then went on to become a truck driver, an occupation he continued for life.

On November 27, 1995, Joel married Karen Louise Nesvold, in Peoria, AZ. They made their home in Dilworth, MN. Joel enjoyed the outdoors, spending time both fishing and hunting. He enjoyed children, especially his grandchildren, and time spent with his family.

Joel is survived by his wife, Karen; a daughter, Angela (Mike) DeWandeler; sons, William (Elizabeth) DeWandeler, Jody (Ann) DeWandeler, and Cody DeWandeler; stepson, Adam Nesvold; grandchildren, Oscar and Holly; stepgrandchildren, Nicole and Alex; sisters, Janet (Dennis) Nickerson, Connie (Martin) Nevala, Cyndy (Jerry) Aho, and Ruth DeWandeler Pachel; and sister-in-law, Bette DeWandeler. Survivors also include aunts, many cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lewis.

A memorial service for Joel will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at 1 PM, in Faithbridge Church, Park Rapids, MN.
