John S. Barsgard, age 73, of Moorhead, MN, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in his home.
John Sanford Barsgard was born May 1, 1939, in Moorhead, the son of Sanford and Edith (Bloom) Barsgard. He was raised in Moorhead and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1957. After graduation he served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960 and upon his discharge, he returned to Moorhead.
On July 28, 1962, he was united in marriage to Yvonne Brunelle at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Moorhead. They established their home in Moorhead and, in 1963, he went to work for the North Dakota Air National Guard as a Jet Aircraft Technician. He retired in 1984.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the American Legion, the Eagles, and Walleyes Unlimited.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time at his lake place on Rock Lake. His family was very important to him and he loved attending his grandchildren's activities. John was also an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Yvonne; son, Greg (Julie) Barsgard, Dilworth, MN; daughter, Susan (Scott Hallford) Barsgard, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Melanie (Lucas) Middlebrook, Chris (Geni Corwin) Gudding, Ashley Prince and Derek Barsgard; great-grandchildren, Mica, Mauer, Afton, Ryker and Ella; sister, Patricia (Maynard) Lynde-Hemmah, Moorhead; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and granddogs, Roxanne and Sophie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Arlen Lynde.
Visitation: Sunday, 5 PM to 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral Service: Monday, March 25, 2013, at 11:00 AM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
