John Grivno

John Herman Albert Grivno was born April 16, 1929, in Ada, MN, to John and Marie (Senzek) Grivno. John was raised on the family potato farm near Ada and attended rural schools for his education.

John married Cenora Olson November 7, 1948, in St. Olaf church of rural Twin Valley, MN. They moved to Moorhead, MN, in November of 1952, and he worked for Minn Kota Manufacturing. In 1955, John began his forty-two year career as a night-time equipment operator for the City of Moorhead. He also worked part-time for Oelke Lawnbuilders for forty years.

John and Cenora moved to Fargo, ND, in 2013. John died Tuesday, June 23, 2015, in Elim Rehab and Care Center, Fargo, at eighty-six years of age.

John was an avid gardener and was known for his pristine, landscaped, flower and vegetable gardens, especially his raspberries and strawberries. He enjoyed time on the water fishing and Fourth of July celebrations with his family on Star Lake. John was a fan of "old-time" music such as polkas and waltzes.

John is survived by his wife of over sixty-six years, Cenora; daughter, Jennifer (Michael) McMahon, Westby, WI; son, Roger (Barbara) Grivno, Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren, Cory (Diana) McMahon, Shaun (Samantha) McMahon, Jeff (Sara) Grivno, Benjamin (Susan) Grivno, and Michele Grivno; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Elsie Starkweather.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Marvin and Alvin.

Visitation for John will be Sunday, June 28, 2015, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

His funeral will be Monday, June 29, 2015, at 2 PM, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Burial will take place in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
