John L. Hovland, 75, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, of Moorhead, MN, died Friday, February 10, 2017, in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND.
John LeRoy Hovland was born October 6, 1941, the son of Peder and Minnie (Bratvold) Hovland, in Mayville, ND. After graduating from Mayville High School, John was drafted into the US Army serving in Korea from 1964 to 1966.
On June 24, 1967, John was united in marriage to Karen Lillemoen in Bethany Lutheran Church in Hatton, ND. The two moved to Moorhead where they built their home and raised two daughters. John was employed by Northwest Oil Equipment for several years before establishing and co-owning R & R Petroleum Equipment. After his retirement from the petroleum business, John worked summers for the City of Moorhead.
John enjoyed woodworking, cooking, pen & ink drawing, fishing and time at the lake. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Karen; daughters, Andrea (Bruce) Manston, Moorhead, and Michele (Travis) Johnson, Duluth; grandchildren, Brayden, Rylan, and Jarrett Manston, and Olivia, and Owen Johnson.
John was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and a brother.
A visitation for John will be one hour prior to his funeral service.
His Funeral Service will be Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 1:30 PM, in Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth, MN.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
