John Marks Jess III, age 47, of Fargo, ND, died of cancer of Sept. 8, 2006, in Palliative Care Unit at MeritCare South University Hospital in Fargo surrounded by his family and friends.
John was born in Cooperstown, ND on Oct. 19, 1958. He moved with his family to Goodridge, MN, and later to Moorhead, MN, where his father was a teacher. He attended school in Moorhead and graduated in 1977. He served in the Army from 1977 to 1980, from which he received an Honorable discharge. He attended technical schools in Moorhead, Brainerd, and Detroit Lakes, MN and graduated for each of these schools. He worked for several places in the area including the Fargo Public schools and the Clay County Courthouse. He recently retired from having served 24 years with distinction in the Army Reserve in Fargo where he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. While in the 311th Hospital Evacuation Reserve Unit from Fargo, he served in the Middle East during Desert Storm in 1991.
From 1977 to 1980, John served in the John is survived by his parents, Bette and John Jess Jr., of Moorhead; his sister, Jana Jess of Fargo; nephew, Sgt. Paul John Jess Murray, of Clarksville, TN; and a family of many loving friends and relatives.
John's preferences for any memorials were Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Moorhead or The MeritCare Roger Maris Cancer Center.
