John Louis Verdi was born April 11, 1927, in Fargo, ND, to Michael and Christine (Totta) Verde. John was raised in Dilworth, MN, where he graduated from high school in 1942.
John worked in the car shop for the Northern Pacific Railroad for a time, until he began his own business, Johnny's Shoe Repair, in Fargo. John was married to Elizabeth "Sybil" Costello on October 20, 1947, in Dilworth.
John died Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fargo, at eighty-eight years of age.
John enjoyed spending time in his garden as well as watching sports, especially baseball. He loved opera music and spending time with his family.
John is survived by his wife, Sybil, Dilworth; children, Joan (Jim) Costello, Albuquerque, NM, John, Cormorant Lake, MN, Mike (Kelly) Leesburg, VA, Frank, Dilworth, Lisa Verdi, Phoenix, AZ, Angela (Bruce) Anderson, Leesburg, and Joe (Laurie) Davenport, IA; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Ernie Verdi, Toronto, Canada; and a sister, Marie Bedore, Dilworth.
John was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth; and a daughter-in-law, Deborah.
John's wishes were to donate his body to the University of North Dakota Medical School. A service for John will be held at a later date.
