John Ohnstad

September 21, 1924 — October 22, 2004

John B. Ohnstad, age 80, of New Effington, SD, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at Innovis Health in Fargo, ND, after a brief battle with cancer.

John, the son of Bennie and Lucy (Kolosky) Ohnstad, was born in Argusville, ND, on Sept. 21, 1924. He grew up and received his education in the Argusville area. As a young man, he farmed there.

In 1946, John entered the US Army. He served as a medic in Korea and was discharged in 1947.

He made his home in Moorhead, MN, where he worked for KVOX radio and KFGO radio, and attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND, where he received his degree in electrical engineering.

John worked for the Federal Aviation Administration. He lived and worked in the Washington, DC area, and Kansas City, MO., as well a number of other areas around the country, while he helped develop and install electronic navigational aides for aircraft. He retired at the age of 62.

In about 1987, John moved to New Effington, SD, where he had lived since. He was an avid ham radio operator as well as a licensed pilot. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.

John is survived by two brothers, Bernard (Eleanor) Ohnstad and James (Susan) Ohnstad, both rural Argusville; two nephews, Bennett and Kevin (Teresa) Ohnstad; two nieces, Julie (James) Scoville and Jennifer (Randy Benson) Ohnstad; five great-nephews, two

Georgetown, Minnesota.



Burial: Wild Rose Cemetery, Georgetown.
