John P. Peterson

John P. Peterson, aged 65, of Glyndon, MN, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023, at Sanford West Campus in Fargo, ND.

Born on September 9, 1958, in Moorhead, MN, John Philip Peterson was the beloved son of Arnold and Betty Lou (Smith) Peterson. He grew up in Halstad, MN and graduated from Halstad High School in 1977. Following his high school education, John pursued carpentry at Moorhead Technical College, where he earned his degree.

On September 26th, 1987, John married Tracey Adams and together they were blessed with three children: Bobby, Taylor, and Danielle, and helped raise his niece Tarsi. They established their family home in Halstad where John worked as a carpenter. He later joined the military and served in the US Navy during Operation Desert Storm. In 1992 he joined the Moorhead Fire Department as a firefighter and moved his family to Glyndon in 1994. On June 24, 2000, John entered into marriage with Wanda Lackmann at Glyndon Lutheran Church. Throughout his remaining years in Glyndon, John proudly served as a firefighter. He had a deep passion for protecting the community as well as working alongside his brothers at the Moorhead Fire Department. John’s love for the job remained strong all the way up to his retirement in 2012.     

He was a member of Glyndon Lutheran Church and the American Legion.  John also served on the Halstad Volunteer Fire Department for a period time before joining the Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department.

Outside of his professional life, John had vast interests and hobbies. As an avid supporter of both the Minnesota Vikings and Twins teams, he delighted in following their games. He also cherished moments spent hunting, fishing, gardening, golfing, and engaging in woodworking projects. The allure of spending tranquil days at the lake held great appeal for him. Above all else though, he treasured time shared with his adoring grandchildren.    

Left to honor his memory are John's wife, Wanda; his children: Bobby (Olivia) Peterson of West Fargo, ND, Taylor (Lauryn) Peterson of Fargo, and Danielle (Nick) Weller of Moorhead; his cherished grandchildren, Liam and Theo; niece, and Tarsi (Samuel) Saula, Moorhead; aunts, uncles, and cousins, also survive him.     

Preceding John in death are his beloved parents.

A Gathering of Family and Friends for John will be on Tuesday, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service, in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead.

A Celebration of John’s Life will be Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 2:00 PM, in Glyndon Lutheran Church, Glyndon.
