John Walter Dohm, 89, Moorhead, died Thursday, September 30, 2010 in the VA Medical Center, Fargo, ND. He was a recent resident of Eventide The Fairmont in Moorhead, MN.
John was born to John and Irma (Clark) Dohm on November 12, 1920 at Hibbing, Minnesota. He grew up in Hibbing where he attended elementary and high school.
John joined the Army Air Corps in 1943 and became a co-pilot of B-24 aircraft during World War II. One of his flights shot down in 1944. He was a POW in Germany for the remainder of the war, until being freed by the Russians.
John graduated from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. John married Virginia Gosson and they raised 2 sons. He worked many years as salesman for the Berkeley Pump Company. John was an avid golfer and volunteered at the VA Medical Center. He and Virginia brought their therapy dog, Chloe, for many VA hospital visits.
John is survived by two sons, John (Marie) Dohm III, Moorhead, and David (Michelle) Dohm, Adamstown, Maryland; five grandchildren, Julie (Brian) Johnson, Jana (Grant) Melquist, Jessica Dohm, Matthew Dohm, and Benjamin Dohm; four great-grandchildren, Parker and Kylee Johnson, and Mason and Haylee Melquist; a sister, Jane (Robert) Johnson; and two brothers, Clark (Jean) Dohm and Richard Dohm. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, and his parents.
John appreciated the special times he had with his sons and visits from friends. John will be remembered for his kind spirit and quick smile.
